Frequently Asked Questions
-
Traveling in Mexico with us is very safe, but no travel is without risk. We travel only in places we know firsthand and continually evaluate conditions along our routes. We will never take you somewhere we have not personally experienced and feel comfortable visiting with our guests.
-
Yes. Our trips are designed for just 1–4 guests, so solo travelers are welcome. Depending on the trip and accommodations, a private room may involve an additional cost. We’ll discuss the options with you before you reserve.
-
No. You do not need to speak Spanish. Cecelia is fluent in Spanish, and Rusty speaks enough Spanish to comfortably navigate Mexico. We’ll be with you throughout the trip, so language should not be a concern.
-
That’s exactly who The Cautious Traveler is designed for. We’ll guide you through the entire experience—from crossing the border and navigating immigration to getting comfortable traveling in Mexico. You won’t have to figure it out on your own.
-
A moderate fitness level is recommended. Our trips include walking, sometimes on uneven ground, hills, or longer distances. Activities can generally be adjusted to your comfort level, but you should be comfortable walking and being on your feet for portions of the day.
-
We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance for your trip. Travel insurance can help protect you against unexpected circumstances such as illness, trip interruption, or cancellation. We’ll provide information before your trip so you can choose the coverage that’s right for you.
-
Your initial 25% deposit is non-refundable. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your trip. Because we make advance reservations and commitments on your behalf, cancellations may result in additional non-refundable costs. We’ll provide the complete cancellation and refund policy before you reserve your trip.
-
We don’t book airfare, but we’re happy to help you understand your travel options. Depending on your trip, we’ll coordinate where and when we meet and provide clear instructions before you leave home.
